The spectrum of bioanalytical lab-on-a-chip applications ranges from prototypes for a point-of-care test for antibiotic-resistant pathogens in the hospital, to therapy-accompanying, multi-analytic detection methods for diagnosing cancer, to alternatives for animal experimentation. We use digital, analog, optical and electrochemical detection technologies.
We transfer research and development results from the laboratory scale to series production. Using microfluidic-based platforms and molecular tests we manage to define the nature of an infectious pathogen (bacterium, virus and parasite) and possible antibiotic resistances. In specific cases, the same platform can be used to diagnose even the disease carriers themselves (vectors) and their susceptibility to drugs. As part of our current research project, we are developing a mobile diagnostic platform for the detection of resistant pathogens (MRSA) at the point-of-care. By separating the microorganisms into droplets it is possible to conduct an analysis at the single cell level.read more
