Bioanalytics

Our microfluidic lab-on-a-chip platforms are suitable for numerous bioanalytical applications, and they demonstrate a high degree of technological maturity.

The spectrum of bioanalytical lab-on-a-chip applications ranges from prototypes for a point-of-care test for antibiotic-resistant pathogens in the hospital, to therapy-accompanying, multi-analytic detection methods for diagnosing cancer, to alternatives for animal experimentation. We use digital, analog, optical and electrochemical detection technologies.

Infection diagnostics

We transfer research and development results from the laboratory scale to series production. Using microfluidic-based platforms and molecular tests we manage to define the nature of an infectious pathogen (bacterium, virus and parasite) and possible antibiotic resistances. In specific cases, the same platform can be used to diagnose even the disease carriers themselves (vectors) and their susceptibility to drugs. In the field of human infectious disease diagnostics on our centrifugal LabDisk platform, we are working exclusively with our start-up SpinDiag (www.spindiag.de).

Single-cell analyses

As part of our current research project, we are developing a mobile diagnostic platform for the detection of resistant pathogens (MRSA) at the point-of-care. By separating the microorganisms into droplets it is possible to conduct an analysis at the single cell level.

Analyzing fetal DNA from the mother’s blood enables a non-invasive diagnosis of the unborn child.

Food analytics

Thanks to our LabSlice XL platform, the quality of food samples, such as raw meat or meat products, can be tested directly in the factory. Tests for pathogenic microorganisms or the identification of species can be performed automatically, quickly and reliably on site.
