System for non-invasive prenatal diagnostics
Analyzing fetal DNA from the mother’s blood enables a non-invasive diagnosis of the unborn child.
As part of the EU project ANGELab, a lab-on-a-chip system for non-invasive prenatal in-vitro diagnostics (NIPD) was developed to detect genetic diseases. Non-invasive methods are easier on the mother and the unborn child, since they do not encroach on the body.

Precise diagnostics using digital PCR
Methods have been established by an international consortium that are able to isolate fetal DNA from the mother's blood. Hahn-Schickard has developed a method for the detection of various genetic traits, allowing for a precise analysis of such a sample. The detection reaction takes place through digital PCR, which allows for the performance of sensitive and quantitative diagnostics.
