Improved Mounting of Strain Sensors by Reactive BondingA. Schumacher, V. Shah, S. Steckemetz, G. Dietrich, E. Pflug, T. Hehn, S. Knappmann, A. Dehé, A. Leson Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance 30, 7796 - 7804 (2021) show abstractAim of this work is to improve the bond between a strain sensor and a device on which the strain shall be determined. As strain sensor, a CMOS-integrated chip featuring piezoresistive sensor elements was used which is capable of wireless energy and data transmission. The sensor chip was mounted on a standardized tensile test specimen of stainless steel by a bonding process using reactive multilayer systems (RMS). RMS provide a well-defined amount of heat within a very short reaction time of a few milliseconds and are placed in-between two bonding partners. RMS were combined with layers of solder which melt during the bonding process. Epoxy adhesive films were used as a reference bonding process. Under mechanical tensile loading, the sensor bonded with RMS shows a linear strain sensitivity in the whole range of tested forces whereas the adhesive-bonded sensor has slightly nonlinear behavior for low forces. Compared to the adhesive-bonded chips, the sensitivity of the reactively bonded chips is increased by a factor of about 2.5. This indicates a stronger mechanical coupling by reactive bonding as compared to adhesive bonding. |

Robust and fast part traceability in a production chain exploiting inherent, individual surface patternsB. Wigger, I. Koinzer, T. Meissner, M. Barth, A. Zimmermann Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, Volume 63, Juni 2020; Band: Juni 2020, Online: 19.12.2019 show abstractTraceability of single parts is essential in automated manufacturing, especially considering recent developments in Industry 4.0 or Smart Manufacturing. In some cases, however, conventional traceability methods, e.g. barcode, DMC or RFID, are not sufficient to track individual components through their entire production chain. One solution is the exploitation of an object's inherent, individual surface patterns. This work demonstrates label-/tag-free traceability of approx. 1000 components in a molded interconnect device (MID) production chain. The parts' surface patterns are photographed several times along the MID production chain. Based on the captured images nearly 3,300 successful identification processes were performed without any failure. Using a hash algorithm to compress the relevant data of the surface pattern images reduces the required disk space and the runtime significantly. Since the results demonstrate the robustness against surface alterations, this work gives the proof of concept regarding to a method for fast label-/tag-free part tracking that is applicable in an industrial production line. |

Digitale Prozesskette für individualisierte Mikrosysteme – „DigiPro“F. Civelek, K-P. |
