Rapid Prototyping of 3D Printed Electronics

Hybrid 3D Printing of Plastics and Metals

Our processes involve sinter-free deposition of conductive metals from the base material (no granules, no powders). The process includes direct integration of smart functions through reflow-free soldering.

Hahn-Schickard offers customized solutions for the fast and direct conversion of ideas into intelligent 3D electronic prototypes using cost-effective materials such as conductive metal and polymer filaments/granules. SMD electronics can be directly embedded and soldered, soon also with a pick & place robot (in development). This makes the process highly automated and time-saving for prototyping.

With our innovative Hybrid 3D technology, a wide range of applications are possible

In collaboration with the University of Freiburg, Hahn-Schickard has developed a multi-material 3D printing platform that combines a filament extruder (Fused Filament Fabrication) and a metal print head (StarJet) on a 3-axis robotic platform. This innovative hybrid 3D technology enables additive manufacturing of electrical circuits not only on flat surfaces, but also on flexible and curved substrates. From rapid prototyping of printed circuit boards (PCBs) to the development of free-form, intelligent 3D sensing devices, advanced 3D electronics and even personalized medical devices (wearables) - the potential applications are numerous.

Short development times from design to product. Significant reduction in costs for the design iteration. Sustainability and environmental friendliness

Replace etch-based PCB production process with additive manufacturing to achieve higher resource efficiency, e.g. copper, tin, and eliminate the use of photoresist. Massive washing steps and thermal curing steps are eliminated to save clean water and energy.
