Better prognosis and quality of life for young colorectal cancer patients (OUTLIVE-CRC)

Point-of-care platform for biomarker analysis for the early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer

The main goal of OUTLIVE-CRC is to improve the prognosis and quality of life of young colorectal cancer patients using a multi-marker model of metabolite, protein, genetic and epigenetic signatures. Within the Hahn-Schickard subproject, automation strategies will be investigated to enable translation of the liquid biopsy into routine prevention programs by integrating the multi-marker panel into a point-of-care platform. Young patients will benefit from the point-of-care approach as the liquid biopsy analysis can be conveniently performed in a local hospital or doctor's office instead of centralized clinics. In addition, the blood-based prevention program will alleviate reservations and fears about prevention via colonoscopy and thus lower the barriers to sustainable patient participation.
