Volume determination of a fluid jet using AI for online process control (JetsKI )

Within the scope of the project, a computer vision system for online measurement of the dosed volume in the form of a liquid jet is being developed. Compared to other volume measurement methods, the system based on a line scan camera convinces by the simplicity of the hardware and the contactless methodology.

Non-contact dispensing technology is used in many fields ranging from additive manufacturing (also known as 3D printing) to laboratory automation, such as tissue engineering, high-throughput screening, active ingredient production in the pharmaceutical industry or the performance of so-called in vitro diagnostic tests (IVD). In all areas it is essential to know the delivered volume precisely in order to guarantee the quality of the processes.

Compared to other volume measurement methods, the computer vision method based on a line scan camera convinces by the simplicity of the hardware and the contactless methodology. In addition, the approach implements a quasi-real-time, monitoring of the manufacturing processes, which, compared to gravimetric measurement methods, does not involve any loss of reagents.
