Wireless communication technology for the cost-effective status monitoring of ship gear drives (DriveCoM)

Miniaturized, energy self-sufficient sensor nodes for the wireless and intrinsic energy-less monitoring of vibration, temperature and torque (at gear bearing points for example) are to be developed in the research project. These sensor nodes form the technological innovation for the DriveCoM CMS. Easy upgradability and low-cost procurement are key benefits of the DriveCoM-CMS.

The work content of the project has a direct relationship with the political objectives of the "Next generation maritime technologies" research program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Technology (BMWi) [BMWi09] in the area of "Ship engineering". The goals of the project are development and trialling of a method and the necessary technology for cost-effective and reliable reading and processing of data pertaining to the operational status of ship gear drives.
