Energyautonomous Smart Shoe with active/passive climate contol (CoolShoe)

A Smart Shoe is being developed which will be able to regulate the climate within the shoe based on temperature and humidity measurements. This offers an advantage for both comfort and the prevention of diseases. The valves as well as the system electronics are powered by means of energy harvesting.

A Smart Shoe is being developed which will be able to regulate the climate within the shoe based on temperature and humidity measurements. The full system is powered by an energy harvester which generates electrical energy out of the human leg motion during walking. The system thus becomes maintenance-free and is able to power itself without the need for batteries.

The main difference from existing systems is the active control of the climate which implies that humidity and heat are not constantly reduced as is the case in passive systems. Instead, this adaptive system is controlled through a user interface and can actively react to the user’s wishes.
