Lifetime and performance improvement of polymer electrolyte membrane electrolyzers with high performance membrane electrode assemblies (PowerMEE)

The main goal of POWER-MEE is the development of high performance membrane electrode assembly with low catalyst loading and excellent transport properties within the polymer electrolyte membrane. A further goal is the investigation and reduction of ageing effects.

Hahn-Schickard fabricates within the “POWER-MEE” project new electrodes for the application in electrolyzer cells. For this purpose a spray-coating process is developed as fast and reliable  manufacturing technique. In cooperation with the Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK) of the University of Freiburg a completely spray-coated membrane electrode assembly for electrolysis will be developed. The conventionally used membrane ionomer “Nafion” will be replaced by novel polymers, developed by the ICVT Stuttgart. The ageing study will be performed at the Fraunhofer institute for solar energy systems (ISE) Freiburg.
