We are a partner in the new MDR & IVDR competence center for innovative medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics

The Ministry of Economics, Labor and Housing is providing a total of 3.4 million euros in funding to establish a competence center that aims to support Baden-Württemberg companies in implementing the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and the In-vitro Diagnostics Regulation (IVDR).

From the initial idea, through development, approval, and use in the clinic, up to the end of life of the product - with the recently approved MDR & IVDR Competence Center, Hahn-Schickard, the NMI Naturwissenschaftliches und Medizinisches Institut in Reutlingen, and BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg GmbH will be able to support companies throughout the entire life cycle of a medical device in the future.

Medical technology is a highly innovative industry and the new regulation means a great deal of work, which small and medium-sized companies in particular can hardly afford. "In order to support companies on the path of developing medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics, we are creating a contact point - the MDR & IVDR Competence Center - which will bundle the competencies of Hahn-Schickard in Freiburg, the NMI in Reutlingen and BIOPRO GmbH in Stuttgart and make them accessible on a decentralized basis," explains apl. Prof. Dr. Felix von Stetten, Memeber of the Hahn-Schickard Executive Board in Freiburg.

The center, which was initiated as part of the Forum Gesundheitsstandort Baden-Württemberg, complements the MDR & IVDR-Soforthilfe BW, which was launched by the Ministry of Economics in 2019 and is managed by the state company BIOPRO.
